广东时代美术馆 Guangdong Times Museum

广东时代美术馆经历了不同的发展阶段。

广东时代美术馆是一个由民间资本——时代中国——创办并支持的非营利艺术机构。2003 年，时代地产与广东美术馆合作成立的广东美术馆时代分馆，于时代玫瑰园小区启动。2005 年，在“广州三年展”框架下，时任广东美术馆馆长王璜生及策展人侯瀚如、汉斯-乌尔里希·奥布里斯特邀请建筑师雷姆·库哈斯与阿兰·弗劳克斯参与“三角洲实验室”，承担设计广东美术馆时代分馆全新建筑空间的项目，并希望将其建成珠三角艺术实验的中心。

2010 年，新建筑空间全面落成，广东美术馆时代分馆转变注册为独立的艺术机构——广东时代美术馆，于 2010 年 12 月 31 日正式向公众开放。

2018 年 11 月，由时代中国资助，广东时代美术馆在欧洲创办平行机构——时代艺术中心（柏林）。

广东时代美术馆认同文化机构的公共使命和艺术的社会周期。

我们认识到美术馆作为公共文化机构的使命，每年除了筹备四到六个展览之外，还策划每周发生的公共项目，将上百位来自不同国家和地区的艺术家及其作品带到广州，更通过委任创作见证城市的变迁。我们在与艺术家合作的同时，努力促成对话，以评估公众对当代艺术的接受程度。我们重视文化机构在公共领域中的活力，用艺术的方式记录重要的文化时刻和社会转变。

广东时代美术馆是大湾区当代艺术的实验室，也是连接本土和国际文化社区的窗口。

我们认可艺术和文化的社会价值，并将自己视作本土和国际社区的一份子。我们希望将当代艺术的语言与观众的在地经验联系起来，也欢迎艺术家呈现自己的观点，制作视野广阔和激动人心的作品。我们努力将美术馆和我们身处的城市，变成文化工作者和艺术爱好者乐于聚集的地方，组成一个活跃的网络，将爱好艺术的人、艺术家、不同的社群以及各类自发文化项目联系起来。

Guangdong Times Museum has been through different stages of development.

Guangdong Times Museum is a nonprofit institution funded by private sectors, and Times China has been the core funder since the inauguration of the Museum. Cofounded by Times Property (the former name of Times China) and Guangdong Museum of Art (GDMA), Times Museum was set up as a branch of GDMA at Times Rose Garden in 2003. When Wang Huangsheng, the former director of GDMA, along with Hou Hanru and Hans-Ulrich Obrist, invited Rem Koolhaas and Alain Fouraux to conceptualize an architectural proposal in the D-Lab of the 2nd Guangzhou Triennial in 2005, the Museum was incubated as a hub for artistic experiments in the Pearl River Delta region.

After the completion of its facility, Guangdong Times Museum became independent and officially opened its door to the public in December 31, 2010.

In November 2018, Guangdong Times Museum initiated Times Art Center Berlin as its parallel institution in Europe with the support of Times China.

Guangdong Times Museum registers the public role of institutions and the social cycle of art.

Every year, we program four to six exhibitions in our gallery space, introduce numerous artists and artworks to the city of Guangzhou, and commission more than a dozen new works. We reach out to our audience through curated events on a weekly basis. We engage with both the artists and the public to develop ideas, produce artworks, and test receptions. We value our public role as a cultural institution, and endeavor to formulate conversations and document social changes.

Guangdong Times Museum is a vital part of the Greater Bay Area’s cultural landscape.

We celebrate the social values of culture and embrace our communities at home and abroad. We attempt to indigenize the language of contemporary art, while also supporting artists to present their critical ideas and to produce ambitious works. By creating a network of thinkers, artists, and initiatives across regions and cultures, we are making Guangzhou and the Museum a great place for art goers and cultural producers.

After a decade of robust programming, Guangdong Times Museum has become a cultural landmark of the city where people can discover art, connect with each other, feel inspired by unexpected learning and worldly experiences.

建筑 / Architecture

广东时代美术馆的功能分散在社区住宅建筑的数个不同层面上，成为一种与生活和居住空间直接交叉的介入式结构。美术馆首层入口面向街道，设有榕树头项目空间、咖啡厅和公共多功能厅，大厅 7.8 米高的空间可举行各种公共活动；十四楼的办公区由三个住宅单元改造而成；专用电梯垂直经过居民楼直达十九楼展厅，展厅被一个 75 米 x 12 米的轻质大屋顶所覆盖，露台和两个玻璃房俯视广州北部一片典型中国城乡结合部的城市景观，天光通过设计独特的天窗射入主展厅，小区高层建筑的顶部则直接成为展墙视觉元素的一部分；顶楼的夹层将作为档案阅读室，地下一层则用于仓储。

The different functionalities of Times Museum are distributed over different floors of a residential building, and has become an interweaving structure of everyday life and living space. The Museum entrance is on the ground floor opened to the street, which includes the Banyan Commune Space, a cafeteria, and a multifunctional hall. With a height of 7.8 meters, the lobby is a good place to hold a variety of public events. Its office area on the 14th floor is converted from three apartment units. The Museum’s own elevator vertically goes through the whole building and directly arrives at the exhibition hall on the 19th floor. The exhibition hall is equipped with a 75 by 12 meter light-weighted mega-sized roof. From its balcony and two glasshouses, visitors could have a bird’s-eye view of the city landscape of northern Guangzhou, which is a typical yet distinctive Chinese urban-rural area of convergence. Through its uniquely designed roof windows, the skylight provides natural lighting to the main exhibition hall. The roofs of high-rise buildings in the estate fit perfectly as visual elements of the exhibition wall. The mezzanine on the top floor is used as the archival reading room, while the basement is used for storage.

学术委员会 / Academic Committee

美术馆作为学术机构，其学术体系的梳理和建设是最重要的责任和使命，学术专业性建设和独立性的坚持是其依存的基础。2017 年起，广东时代美术馆正式组建了学术委员会。学术委员会与董事会并行，是广东时代美术馆开展典藏、研究、展览陈列、公共项目、学术交流及其他重大学术活动的审议与咨询组织，每一届外聘学术委员为五位，任期为三年。

由于疫情的原因，美术馆于2020年无法如期召开一年一度的学术委员会会议。为了在美术馆未来的学术规划中，拥抱更丰富的视野和议题，以回应当代艺术的地区经验与全球过程的跨域交织，我们邀请了新一届的学术委员，参与到时代美术馆的共同建设当中，名单如下：（按姓氏顺序排名）

佐伊·巴特，一位生活在越南的策展人和作家，现任越南胡志明市工厂当代艺术中心的艺术总监。

曹斐，生于广州，现在北京工作及生活，是活跃于国际舞台的中国艺术家，中央美术学院实验艺术学院教授，研究生导师。

安塞姆·弗兰克，一位作家、教育者和展览制作者，自2013年起担任柏林世界文化宫视觉艺术和电影部主任。

龚彦，上海视觉艺术学院教授，曾任《艺术世界》杂志主编，2013年起任上海当代艺术博物馆馆长。

侯瀚如，国际策展人、艺术评论家和作家，自2013年起担任意大利国立二十一世纪当代艺术博物馆的艺术总监，常驻巴黎和罗马。

Art museum as an academic institution takes the explaining and building of its academic system as the quintessential obligation and mission, keeping its foothold in indigenous academic professionalism and autonomy. Since 2017, Guangdong Times Museum has banded the Academic Committee, a parallel presence to its Board of Directors as well as the reviewing and advisory authority on collection, research, exhibition and display, public program, academic exchange and other major academic events. Each session of the Academic Committee invites five external members for a three-year tenure.

Due to the pandemic, the annual academic advisory meeting in 2020 had been canceled. To foster a cultural institution that would accommodate a challenging future, and to register the complex trajectory bridging the regional and the global, we have formed the academic committee of 2021-2023 with new members:

Zoe Butt, a curator and writer who lives in Vietnam, currently Artistic Director of the Factory Contemporary Arts Centre, Ho Chi Minh City.

Cao Fei, currently living in Beijing, is one of the most innovative Chinese artists to have emerged on the international scene, she is also a professor and a master advisor of the School of Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Anselm Franke, a writer, educator and exhibition maker. Since 2013, he has been Head of Visual Arts and Film at Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin (HKW).

Gong Yan, professor of Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, former Chief-Editor of Art World magazine. Since 2013, Gong Yan has been the director of Power Station of Art.

Hou Hanru, an international curator, critic and prolific writer. He is based in Paris and Rome where he has been Artistic Director of MAXXI, Italy’s National Museum of 21st Century Arts, since 2013.

媒介实验室顾问 / Media Lab

广东时代美术馆媒介实验室于2019年筹备，2021年12月正式成立。目标是思考在技术加速发展的时代，如何以媒介、技术的角度重新思考艺术语言和传统，发展技术与艺术的新视野，以排演和思辨的方式去实验数字媒介如何构建新的社会关系和文化想像。

许煜博士为媒介实验室的荣誉顾问。许煜于英国金匠学院在法国哲学家贝尔纳‧斯蒂格勒（1952-2020）的指导下取得哲学博士学位，及后在法国进行博士后研究，并在德国取得哲学教授资格。许煜先后任教于德国吕纳堡大学、包豪斯大学、中国美术学院等, 现任教于香港城市大学。许煜自2014年起为技术与哲学研究网络的召集人，2020年起担任博古睿哲学与文化奖评委。他的学术论文见于《Research in Phenomenology》、《Philosophy Today》、《Metaphilosophy》、《Techné》等期刊。许煜的学术专著包括《论数码物的存在》（2016）、《论中国的技术问题-宇宙技术初论》（2016）、《递归与偶然》（2019）以及《艺术和宇宙技术》（ 2021），并已被翻译为德、法、意、西、葡、俄、韩、日、中等十多种语言。

Initiated in 2019 and officially established in December 2021, the Media Lab of Times Art Museum is dedicated to contemplating and exploring the languages and traditions of art from the perspective of media and technology in an era of accelerated technological development. It aims to deliver a new vision of art and technology by experimenting with the ways in which digital media build new social relationships and foster cultural imagination through rehearsals and speculations.

Dr. Yuk Hui is the honorary advisor to the Media Lab. Yuk Hui received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Goldsmiths College in the United Kingdom, did his post-doctoral research in France, and Habilitation thesis in Germany. Hui has taught previously at the University of Lüneburg, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, China Academy of Art among others. He now teaches philosophy of technology and aesthetics at the City University of Hong Kong. He is the author of On the Existence of Digital Objects (2016/English version) and The Question Concerning Technology in China. An Essay in Cosmotechnics (2017/English version), Recursivity and Contingency (2019/English version), and the forthcoming Art and Cosmotechnics (2020/English version). His books have been translated into German, French, Italian, Russian, Korean, Japanese and other languages.

广东时代美术馆希望通过“教师网络”，建立美术馆与艺术文化教育工作者的互联，我们希望透过展览研究、知识分享、跨学科讨论、教学实践等活动，为“教师网络”的成员提供第一手的当代艺术资讯，共同探讨多样的艺术教育方法，并在“教师网络”内促成跨领域的讨论和合作。

With the Teachers’ Network, Guangdong Times Museum hopes to build up the links with art and cultural educators. We aim at providing the Network members with first-hand information about contemporary art and explore a variety of art education approaches through exhibition research, knowledge sharing, cross-disciplinary discussions and teaching practices, as well as to promote cross field discussions and cooperations within the Network.

The “T.I.M.E.S pARTicle” is the distinguished name of the volunteer group of Guangdong Times Museum, which aims to draw more students and people from all walks of society interested in contemporary art through the path of “co-construction”, “co-creation”, “co-residence” and “sharing” to get involved with the museum, to learn about the operations of contemporary art and museums, to be embedded in the daily practices where the spirit of contemporary art is constructed and inspired, and to help to build a platform for exchange between contemporary art and the public.

The slogan for Times Museum’s volunteer campaign is “Move with the T.I.M.E.S.,” whereas “T.I.M.E.S” stands for “Team with Innovation, Mutuality, Energy and Spirit.”

We offer free guided tours through the current exhibition on weekends at 3 pm.

Visitors are welcomed to capture and share the memory of the exhibitions, but please do not take photos of places or art works marked “No photo” inside and outside of the Museum without permission. No flash/ tripod/ audio equipment /video recording. The photos are not allowed to be used for any commercial purpose.
